The romantic Hanging Gardens of Marqueyssac
The starting point for any visit to Périgord, the Jardins de Marqueyssac are romantic and picturesque. Located around a castle from the beginning of the 19th century, discover more than 6 km of shaded walks.
The 22 ha park, built on a rocky outcrop dominates the valley with its high cliffs, offering you a breathtaking view! Just 130 meters above the river, you can observe the most beautiful panorama of Périgord. Witness a rich historical past and an exceptional natural heritage. This grandiose view embraces the entire valley and its castles: Beynac, Fayrac, Castelnaud, la Roque-Gageac …
Discover the Château de Marqueyssac, dating from the end of the 18th century. The house is made up of two very distinct sides. Facing the valley, the Castle unveils a large facade, made up of a central tower, which contains the staircase. At the back, we discover a much more intimate layout, opening onto the park. Built in all simplicity, the Château has a lauze roof, a material typical of the region.
Set with a network of box trees, the entire estate offers you wild and romantic nature. During your walk, you will come across ornamental species: lime, Judea tree, laburnum, plane tree and elm. From August to September you can also admire the Naples Cyclamen, which produces fabulous colorful carpets.
