The romantic Hanging Gardens de Marqueyssac

The starting point for any visit to Périgord, the Jardins de Marqueyssac are romantic and picturesque. Surrounded by an early 19th-century château, discover over 6 km of shady promenades.

The 22 ha park, built on a rocky spur, dominates the valley from its high cliffs, offering you a breathtaking view! At only 130 meters above the river, you can observe the most beautiful panorama of the Périgord. Witness a rich historical past and an exceptional natural heritage. This imposing viewpoint embraces the entire valley and its castles: Beynac, Fayrac, Castelnaud, la Roque-Gageac

ARCHITECTURE

Discover the Château de Marqueyssac, dating from the end of the 18th century. The house is composed of two distinct sides. Facing the valley, the château reveals a large facade, with a central tower containing the staircase. At the rear, a much more intimate layout opens onto the park. Built with simplicity in mind, the château’s roof is made of lauze, a material typical of the region.

VEGETATION

Surrounded by a network of box trees, the entire estate offers a wild and romantic setting. During your walk, you will meet ornamental species: lime tree, Judas tree, cytise, plane tree and elm. From August to September, you can also admire the Naples cyclamen, which produces fabulous colorful carpets.
