Starting with Sarlat, with its cobblestone streets, 15th-century houses, and Wednesday and Saturday markets. Lascaux and its 20,000-year-old cave paintings, faithfully reproduced in a life-size replica. The Château de Castelnaud displays its collection of medieval weapons across the river from Beynac.
It takes an hour or two to explore the Marqueyssac Gardens. Further north, La Roque Saint-Christophe features a cliff that has been inhabited since prehistoric times. For families,the Périgord Noir Aquarium, located in the village of Le Bugue, adds an exotic touch to your family vacation.

La Bouysse is a family-friendly campground without any frills. There are no massive resorts or nonstop entertainment. People come here mainly to enjoy the Dordogne, the Périgord Noir, and a hassle-free vacation.
The campground opened in 1972 on the grounds of a former farm that had been converted into a vacation destination. Three generations later, the same family is still at the helm, and you can really feel it in the atmosphere. People run into each other on the snack bar’s terrace, strike up conversations, the kids quickly find their way to the pool, and some regulars catch up with their summer neighbors.
Another advantage: Sarlat is only 6 km away. And you don’t need to take the car to go swimming. The campground has direct access to the Dordogne River, with Caudon Beach right across the way and canoe rentals on site.

Castles, villages, and activities near La Bouysse Campground
You don’t have to travel far to make the most of your days. In the morning, you can visit a castle. In the afternoon, take a walk along the Dordogne, go canoeing, or take a dip in the river. From La Bouysse Campground, about 6 kilometers from Sarlat-la-Canéda, several well-known villages and sites in the Périgord Noir are less than 10 km away.
Carsac-Aillac is 5 km away. People go there for the Jardins d’Eau, but also for the Voie Verte, which winds its way between Sarlat and Cazoulès.
8 km away, you can choose between Domme, with its fortified town and views of the valley, or La Roque-Gageac, ranked among the most beautiful villages in France, with its cave dwellings clinging to the cliffside.
Same distance to Groléjac. Its lake and nature reserve offer a change of scenery without having to plan a long day’s drive.
A little further on, the Château des Milandes, 20 km away, tells the story of Josephine Baker. Les Eyzies, 30 km away, brings together in one place the National Museum of Prehistory and the most important prehistoric sites listed as World Heritage Sites, such as the Font-de-Gaume Cave.

For those who prefer the river, the Dordogne flows right by the campground. Caudon Beach is just a few minutes’ walk away— perfect for swimming and canoeing. A minibus will take you back to the campground after your trip down the river.
In the summer, the campground’s activities are in full swing. The kids’ club welcomes the youngest guests, while games of pétanque, ping-pong, tennis, and volleyball keep the afternoons lively.
In the evening, karaoke, shows, concerts, dance parties, bingo, and themed dinners provide a festive, family-friendly way to end the day. The Activities ends at 11 p.m. to keep the area quiet, with a longer evening on Tuesdays.
When it comes to amenities, our 3-star campground makes it easy to go about your daily routine on-site. In July and August, the bar is open to guests all day long. The snack bar takes over for lunch or dinner, serving local dishes.
Atthe grocery store, you’ll find fresh bread in the morning, fruits and vegetables, and Bergerac wines. Wi-Fi, a laundry facility, a safe, and rentals of refrigerators and baby kits also make your stay more convenient.
When to Go Camping in the Périgord Noir
Summer for lively activities, June or September for a quieter experience: the best time to book your stay in the Périgord Noir depends mainly on how you like to spend your vacations.
In July and August, the campground is in full high-season swing. The vacation activities come one after another without a break: kids’ club, swimming, snack bar, grocery store, and evening entertainment. The mobile homes are rented by the week, with check-ins and check-outs on Sundays.
This is also the liveliest time of year in Sarlat and the surrounding area. The markets draw crowds to Saint-Cyprien, Belvès, and Audrix. The outdoor dining areas fill up, and the narrow streets are bustling with people. Candlelit evening events at the Marqueyssac Gardens, evening events at Castelnaud Castle, knightly spectacles, and dramatized tours bring the Dordogne Valley to life.
During the low and mid seasons—particularly in April, June, September, or during the All Saints’ Day school break—you have more flexibility in booking your stay dates, without being required to book a full week. Mobile homes are priced 25 to 40 percent lower during these times. Sightseeing is more leisurely. It’s easier to get around on the small roads of the Périgord Noir, and it’s easier to find a parking spot in towns and villages.

Frequently Asked Questions About Your Camping Trip in the Périgord Noir
A week gives you time to combine several visits with time at the campground, without rushing. It’s also the standard length of time for mobile home reservations in July and August. For a shorter trip, 3 to 4 days are enough for the closest sites.
Not for everything. The canoe trip starts right from the campground, and the Sarlat-Cazoulès Greenway lets you bike to Carsac-Aillac. For villages farther away, like Domme or La Roque-Gageac, the car is still the most convenient way to get there.
Yes, one pet per accommodation unit or campsite is allowed, provided it is microchipped, vaccinated, and kept on a leash. Category 1 and 2 dogs are not permitted. Please be sure to notify us when you make your reservation.
Yes. Cribs, high chairs, and baby bathtubs are available upon request in the rental units, and a baby changing station with a bathtub and changing table is located in the restrooms. This makes it easy to travel light, even with the little ones.
